Journal Article 2025 10 01 <p>Islamic art, as one of the most intricate manifestations of the visual culture of the Islamic world, has always stood at the intersection of the sacred and the aesthetic, form and meaning, mysticism and power. Understanding the essence of this art and interpreting its diverse functions requires an examination and comparison of viewpoints that have analyzed it from historical, philosophical, political, and mystical perspectives. The present study, employing a comparative and analytical approach, compares the intellectual foundations of traditionalist scholars in the field of Islamic art—Robert Irwin, Christiane Pries, Barbara Brend, and Talbot Rice—and seeks to identify the points of convergence and divergence among their perspectives across three axes: the ontology of art, its social function, and its spiritual aesthetics. Using a qualitative method and content analysis of these scholars’ ideas, the study concludes that Rice and Pries, emphasizing order, geometry, and unity within multiplicity, regard Islamic art as a manifestation of <em>tawhid</em> (divine unity) and a sacred structure. In contrast, Irwin and Brend, with historical and cultural approaches, interpret it as a reflection of power, gender, and social experience. The findings indicate that theoretical dialogue between these two approaches is possible and that, through the mediating views of Pries and Brend, a hybrid model for explaining Islamic art can be developed—one that perceives art as a domain where meaning and context, the sacred and the social, coexist. This model can provide a theoretical basis for rethinking Islamic aesthetics and for the cultural critique of contemporary art. The goal of strengthening the theoretical foundations of Islamic art offers an analytical framework for future studies in the historiography of art and Islamic aesthetics.</p> <p>هنر اسلامی به‌عنوان یکی از پیچیده‌ترین نمودهای فرهنگ تصویری جهان اسلام، همواره در مرز میان قدسی و زیبایی‌شناسی، فرم و معنا، و عرفان و قدرت قرار داشته است. درک چیستی این هنر و تفسیر کارکردهای گوناگون آن، مستلزم بررسی و تطبیق دیدگاه‌هایی است که از منظرهای تاریخی، فلسفی، سیاسی و عرفانی به تحلیل آن پرداخته‌اند. پژوهش حاضر با رویکردی تطبیقی و تحلیلی، به مقایسه مبانی فکری اندیشمندان سنت گرا در حوزه هنر اسلامی—رابرت ایروین، کریستین پرایس، باربارا برند و تالبوت رایس—می‌پردازد و تلاش می‌کند نقاط اشتراک و افتراق دیدگاه‌های آنان را در سه محور هستی‌شناسی هنر، کارکرد اجتماعی و زیبایی‌شناسی معنوی بررسی کند. این پژوهش با بهره‌گیری از روش کیفی و تحلیل محتوای  تفکرات این اندیشمندان، به این نتیجه دست می‌یابد که رایس و پرایس با تأکید بر نظم، هندسه و وحدت در کثرت، هنر اسلامی را تجلی توحید و ساختار قدسی می‌دانند؛ در حالی‌که ایروین و برند با رویکردی تاریخی و فرهنگی، آن را بازتاب قدرت، جنسیت و تجربه‌ی اجتماعی تفسیر می‌کنند. نتیجه‌گیری پژوهش بیانگر آن است که گفت‌وگوی نظری میان این دو رویکرد ممکن است و می‌توان از رهگذر دیدگاه‌های میانجی پرایس و برند، به الگویی ترکیبی در تبیین هنر اسلامی دست یافت؛ الگویی که هنر را عرصه‌ی هم‌نشینی معنا و زمینه، امر قدسی و امر اجتماعی می‌داند. این الگو می‌تواند مبنایی نظری برای بازاندیشی در زیبایی‌شناسی اسلامی و نقد فرهنگی هنر معاصر فراهم آورد. هدف تقویت بنیان‌های نظری هنر اسلامی، چارچوبی تحلیلی برای مطالعات آینده در حوزه تاریخ‌نگاری هنر و زیبایی‌شناسی اسلامی فراهم می‌سازد.</p> https://journaliki.com/index.php/journaliki/article/download/346/306
