Abstract

Almsgiving (infaq) is one of the significant rulings of Islam with economic and social implications. It explicitly encourages assistance to others, whether obligatory or recommended, aiming to improve the economic and social conditions of individuals in society. The present study, with the objective of examining the role of infaq in realizing citizenship rights from the perspective of rejecting wealth accumulation, poses the question: what role does infaq play in the realization of citizenship rights? This article employs a descriptive-analytical method and relies on library-based research, primarily referring to religious texts, including Quranic verses and narrations. The results indicate that supporting the needy and the poor in society, improving the living conditions of the Islamic community, preventing inequality and wealth accumulation among a select few, supporting suitable employment for individuals in society, and contributing to the establishment of justice are key aspects of the effects of infaq in the realm of Islamic citizenship rights, all of which are considered fundamental principles of citizenship rights. From the perspective of the citizenship model, infaq not only fulfills the material needs of citizens but also fosters a specific form of cooperation and solidarity in the Islamic society, wherein a sense of altruism and mutual assistance emerges in times of crisis and urgency, preventing social irresponsibility among individuals. Thus, infaq, as one of the essential commands of Islamic law (Shari‘ah), has a significant social function, and if properly organized, it provides a foundation for achieving justice and addressing the evolving needs of citizens. This characteristic underscores the practical dimensions of Islamic legal teachings.
